Special Education Needs and disability information

Fonthill Primary Academy is committed to providing high quality education for all children, including those identified as having Special Educational Needs or Disabilities.

Every child is equally valued and has the right to a broad, balanced academic, social and emotional curriculum. We respond to individuals in ways which take account of their varied life experiences, needs and abilities in a nurturing environment where all children can flourish.

Children may experience learning, communication, social, emotional, mental health or sensory and/or physical difficulties at any time in their school life. We aim to identify children’s difficulties at an early stage and work with you and your child. We do this through ‘School Support’. A few children with complex or severe needs may have an ‘Education, Health and Care Plan’ (this replaces a statement of special educational needs).

School Contacts

If you have a concern about your child, it is best to first speak to your child’s class teacher. They can then arrange further support or a meeting with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) if needed.

Mrs Welti is the SENCO and Mrs Thompson is the Assistant Senco. They can contacted via the School Office.  The role of the Senco is to co-ordinate the provision for children with additional needs, including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
