At Fonthill, we believe that Physical Education (PE) plays a vital role in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. We follow the Get Set 4 PE scheme, which provides a high-quality, structured approach to teaching PE across all year groups. Our lessons focus on developing fundamental movement skills, teamwork, resilience, and a love for sport.
We also provide opportunities for children to compete both within school and against other schools in the local community. Through inter-house competitions, festivals, and external sporting events, pupils can experience the excitement of competition while developing key skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. These events help build confidence and encourage pupils to stay active beyond the classroom.
Our goal is to ensure that every child enjoys PE, discovers new interests, and understands the importance of physical activity for their overall well-being.
Swimming at Fonthill
As part of the PE curriculum, children take part in swimming lessons, where they develop essential water safety skills and confidence in the water. Pupils are assessed against the national curriculum swimming standards, which include swimming competently over a distance of at least 25 metres, using a range of strokes effectively, and performing a safe self-rescue. We ensure that all children have the opportunity to progress their swimming ability, helping them to become confident swimmers by the end of Key Stage 2.
